It is with a very heavy heart and great sadness to share the devastating news of the passing of my dear and very loved father – Surjit Singh Gujral.
He was my best friend, my life coach, my rock, my king. He taught me everything about the business, he gave me the confidence to expand and take the reins. He inspired me and boosted me when I needed it, he also kicked me when I needed it. Everything I went through, he was standing by my side. He runs through my veins and I can’t express the utter loss I feel.
If you are Indian, an Indian in Australia, spare a thought for the man who opened one of the first Indian restaurants and pioneered authentic North Indian cuisine in Australia. Beloved in the community, dad quickly became known as a jovial man with a very big heart. He sought to entertain everyone who visited his restaurant with his stories, contagious laugh and cheerful spirit.
Dad put as much effort into others’ joy as he did into their food, and for that we are eternally grateful.
A great man
A great cricket man
A great Australian
A great Indian
A great loss!
Surjit’s legacy lives on through his restaurant, family and memories.
Rest In Peace dad, I love you and miss you so much. You were taken from us too soon, still can’t believe your gone.
The restaurant will be closed until further notice.
We will return with the same passion that helped form this institution. Thank you for your loyal patronage.
From his only son and child, Rasan Gujral.
